Hermannator: I might be back

The huge former Blues favourite will continue playing next season.

And he would love the opportunity of an emotional Fratton Park comeback in League One.

Hreidarsson left Pompey in January after four-and-a-half years and 123 appearances.

The 37-year-old moved to Coventry on a six-month deal, but his progress was stalled by a shoulder injury after only a couple of games.

That curtailed his chances of an extended stay at the Ricoh Arena as the Sky Blues were relegated from the Championship.

Michael Appleton invited Hreidarsson to Pompey’s Eastleigh training ground to undertake his rehabilitation over the final weeks of the season.

The Icelandic international will be playing on in the new campaign and is on course to be fit for August.

Hreidarsson’s agent, Olafur Gardarsson, has no doubts the defender would easily be able to handle playing at League One level.

And he admitted the player would love to be plying his trade at Pompey once again.

Gardarsson said: ‘I think he would like to come back to Portsmouth. He was always happy with the club and the fans.

‘I think that would definitely be an option he would like. He could do the job still, there is no worries about that.

‘Hermann will consider every option and he has very nice memories from Portsmouth, very nice memories.

‘Then he is going to play football for at least one or two more seasons.

‘He is definitely carrying on. He will never quit on a situation.

‘Hermann will not stop because someone else decides he shouldn’t continue.

‘He will stop when he decides he doesn’t enjoy football any more.’

Hreidarsson has returned to Iceland where he is continuing to work his way to full fitness in readiness for the new season.

Gardarsson explained that is his sole focus at present, before looking at what club he could extend his career further with.

Rangers, who recently had their transfer embargo ruled unlawful, have long been suitors.

Gardarsson believes there will still be options for the player to choose from.

He said: ‘Hermann is getting himself fully fit, and that is all he is thinking of at the moment.

‘He is going to use the summer to get himself fully fit.

‘When we last spoke he said first he is going to get himself fit and then we are going to look around.

‘He understands he has been away and first needs to get fully fit.

‘Then we will see what options he has.

‘He will always have choices, that’s not a problem with Hermann.’
