Hillians are in the mood to give it their best shot

Hill were desperately unlucky to lose 2-1 at leaders Walton Casuals on Tuesday but they are in good heart for Saturday’s FA Cup to Bromley.

Manager Ian Chapman said after that: “I’m always very disappointed to lose but at least we did it in the right way.

“While we have total respect for Bromley and the league in which they play, we’ll go there and give it a real go.”

Stuart Tuck is highly doubtful but Danny Curd is back from holiday and Greg Luer could be recovered from an ankle injury.

Also Joe Keehan is now a Hillian in his own right and is therefore eligible for the Cup.

On Tuesday Hill gaves as good as they got at Casuals and in the end deserved at least a point. But still Chapman could draw on plenty of positives, not least the performance of Lee Harding when he came on as sub after 74 minutes.

The game was high tempo from the start and Hill could have had an early penalty when Max Miller’s effort appeared to be palmed off the line.

It was against the run of play when the hosts went ahead on 23 minutes when Malik Ounia gave Alan Mansfield no chance with a thunderous drive off the underside of the bar.

But Hillians were level three minutes later as Pat Harding created space and pulled the back for Miller to smash the ball in from 10 yards.

The visitors finished the half the stronger and both Harding and Curtis Gayler were denied by keeper Kieron Sanderson, while Keehan was just too high under pressure.

After the break Hill still saw plenty of the ball but clearcut chances were at a premium at either end until Casuals were awarded two penalties in three minutes. The first on 71 minutes was dispatched by ex-Kingstonian striker Bobby Traynor but then Mansfield denied him the second time after conceding the spot kick, that earned the keeper only a booking.

It was all Hillians in the last 15 minutes but they failed to get the equaliser their efforts deserved on the night.
