The past two unfinished campaigns have seen the Hillians in the lower reaches of the Isthmian South East.

The 2019-20 season saw Hill in 15th before it’s abandonment. The following campaign saw the Hillians at the foot of the table after seven games before the season’s eventual curtailment.

Lovett said: “I think this season, like every season, we aim to improve on the previous year.

“Its been a tough two seasons, as everyone knows, and with the group of players in the squad we have, I feel we should be giving the fans more to cheer about this season.

“Although last season was curtailed after seven league games, I don’t think anyone can read anything into that at all.

“As a management and group of players we know we wouldn’t have finished anywhere near where we did.

“But I guess this makes us more eager to get going this season.”

Last month Burgess Hill Town announced former Horsham midfielder Lewis Taylor as their first new signing of the off season.

Taylor returned to the Hornets from National League South outfit Dorking Wanderers last summer and made nine appearances in the curtailed 2020-21 campaign.

The Hillians also confirmed on Tuesday that Reggie Ward, Josh Spinks, Martyn Box and Harry Pollard had committed to the club for the upcoming season.

Lovett was delighted to have Taylor on board and hoped to announce more Hillians players in the not too distant future.

He said: “Lewis is a very energetic, technically good central midfielder.

“He has played at very good levels, in some good sides and is a perfect character to add to the changing room.

“He will bring a calming composed presence on the pitch. He will organise other players and add to the quality we already have in there.

“I know he is looking forward to getting going and meeting all the players when we start training.

“There will be a couple more new faces added to the squad, but we will announce them when everything is completed.”
