The Hillians lost 3-0 at home to Ramsgate on Saturday – and things got worse on Tuesday night when they lost 5-0 at Whyteleafe and had new signing Andrew Herring sent off.

The second defeat meant they dropped below near neighbours Haywards Heath on goal difference.

On the plus side, the bottom half of the table is still tightly congested and even one win could lift Jay Lovett’s men sharply away from the relegation zone.

Not such good news is that the Hillians now have to wait until Saturday week for their next league game, which is at home to Whitehawk.

Before then, they have two knockout games. They host Harrow Borough in the FA Trophy third qualifying round on Saturday and visit Bognor next Tuesday for a Sussex Senior Cup second-round tie.

The Hillians’ forward options have been boosted by two attacking signings in the past week.

Former South Park, Merstham, Hayes & Yeading and Hanwell Town man Herring was recruited last Thursday.

And the club have announced they had signed striker Tom Chalaye on loan from Worthing. The teenager has impressed in the games he has played for Adam Hinshelwood’s side and also scored regularly for Pagham on loan last season.
