Hillwood’s double looked to have given his side a comfortable win but Kieron Playle-Howard’s header on 78 minutes set up a tense final few minutes, though, Hassocks held on for a 2-1 success.

Following a flying start, Robins took a deserved lead on 20 minutes as James Westlake’s corner was headed home by Hillwood.

The same man had a second just four minutes later after smart work from Ben Bacon saw him pull back for Hillwood to slot in.

Robins looked to be cruising to a comfortable opening day away win but Wick had other ideas.

Andy Chick’s fine whipped free-kick found Playle-Howard at the back post and he headed home with plenty of time left on the clock.

Wick pushed for a leveller in the final ten minutes but Hassocks stood firm to wrap up all three points.
