Hinshelwood brings in five new faces at Rebels

The new manager has brought in five new faces after just two games at the helm of the Woodside Road club.

Hinshelwood’s side had their Ryman League South Division match at Herne Bay postponed on Saturday but he has brought in midfielder Max Howell, from Burgess Hill and loanee full-back Will Hendon, from Lewes.

Also joining are Chichester’s Connor Cody and Corey Heath and striker Omar Bugiel, from his former side Selsey – all three of whom were also on Bognor’s books.

Hinshelwood said: “I’ve brought in a few young lads and it’s a good opportunity for them and I want to go with them.

“We had a practice match just among ourselves on Saturday and they were involved with a couple from the youth team and I was impressed with them all.

“I want to give the youngsters a chance at Ryman South level and I think they have got what it takes.

“Max Howell has come in from Burgess Hill and Will Hendon is on a month’s loan from Lewes with an agreement with Danny Bloor. Matt Piper is on his way back from injury, so, hopefully, after a month Pipes will be fit again and that will work well.

“Connor and Corey were dual-signed with Bognor as well, so there is some pedigree there and I know them well from Chichester College where they have been with my brother and Darin Killpartrick.

“Omar was at Selsey with me so I know what he is all about. He is coming back from a broken leg from last season, but he is finding his feet again well.

“Harvey Sparks and Jack Barnes played with us on Saturday and I am hoping to see more of the youth team in the coming weeks.

“I want to integrate more of them and get them in with me in the first team. I want the mixture of my philosophy of a passing game and letting them get out there and expressing themselves.”

Rebels are set to return to league action on Saturday when they visit Eastbourne Town.

Hinshelwood added: “The thing that came from the game with the lads was they applied themselves in the practice match and I cannot wait to see them out there in a competitive game.”

There will be a trio of familiar faces back at Woodside Road on Wednesday when Rebels host Newhaven in the third round of the Sussex Senior Cup.

Former Worthing joint managers Lee Brace and Kieran Collins, who left Rebels in November, have taken charge at The Dockers, with Mark Pulling their assistant.
