Gorings Mead has been a temporary home for the Hornets since 2009 and was always due to come to end at the end of the season as Horsham hope to secure a permanent new ground at Horsham Golf and Fitness, should it be granted permission this month.

The fate of the club, which has been without a home since 2008, and their proposed new home now rest in the hands of Horsham District Councillors and what the club has described is their ‘third and final’ application.

The exit from the town which will take place this summer casts further doubt over the future of the club, which has already had to dissolve the under-18 development team due to a lack of a ground to play at.

Horsham will now have to go far from the town to find another temporary home for the near future, with Worthing being seen as a possibility.

Horsham director John Lines said: “We’re grateful to Horsham YMCA for giving us a home for eight years, but what we really need is a permanent ground of our own to secure our future and provide excellent facilities for the wider community.”

The news comes as Horsham District Council prepares to consider the two applications for the Holbrook Club and Hop Oast, which were submitted in December.
