Huge Heath achievement sees them notch best-ever points tally

Broadbridge Heath have accomplished their highest-ever points tally in the top division of the Southern Combination League.

A comfortable 4-0 win over AFC Uckfield Town saw them amass 53 points - a point more than last season - with four games still left to play.

Scott Weller’s early effort from distance went inches wide of the post and Tiago Andrade’s header went just over the bar, before his scissor kick was cleared off the goalline.

Despite the pressure, it was the visitors, under the direction of former Horsham managers Anthony Storey and Cliff Cant for the first time, who forced the first save when Dan Barnard’s powerful header forced Michael Chester to save at full length.

Deep into first-half stoppage time, a long Piers McDermott throw was glanced home by Andy Waddingham at the near post. The lead was doubled early in the second period when a Weller free-kick was only cleared as far as Jake Holmes, who rifled home through a crowded penalty area from 18 yards.

Andrade had a shot saved and Dean Robinson’s header went wide, before his shot from 20 yards was deflected to Stuart Chester who took a touch and then hammered into the roof of the net.

Heath continued to dominate play with Andrade hitting the crossbar and with minutes remaining just as Andrade was about to score, he was hauled to the ground and Jake Holmes coolly slotted the penalty.
