Goals from Anthony Knockaert and Solly March ended a two-game losing run as the Seagulls remain second in the Championship.

Hughton said: "I thought we were worthy winners in the end but we had to fight hard for it.

"There are no easy games here, it's quite a difficult pitch as well and a good atmosphere and we needed David Stockdale to make a couple of early saves.

"They're a team fighting and they showed that we had to get through that period. I thought if we could get through it, the game would open up for us and that's what happened.

"In the last half-an-hour we could have added to the scoreline and got more goals."

Hughton added every game is important now and said: "For as big as this game is, it's exactly as big as Saturday's game was and that was a huge disappointment for us, certainly to lose in the manner we did.

"You want a response and irrespective of where these are in the division, Villa took a good while to break them down on Saturday and that was similar to us.

"They're all big games now and I'm just glad we got the right response after Saturday and we were well worthy of the win."

Huddersfield remain six points behind Albion after a 1-0 win against Aston Villa and Hughton said: "The attitude has to be going into every game that the other teams around you are going to win. There won't be too many defeats in the top group but there will have to be some as teams play each other.

"But it's a very competitive league and we will certainly have to win a good percentage of our games to make sure we stay where we are."
