I don't think many would argue if Worthing and Hastings were given promotion

Burgess Hill Town boss Jay Lovett doesn’t think the past should be brought up when deciding how to resolve this season.

The Hillians are one of many teams asked for feedback on how the season should be decided and they say there is no doubt this season should be ended now.

But there has been talk from other teams suggesting this season and last season should be added together to decide promotion.

If that happened it would not have an effect on Lovett’s side, but the head coach doesn’t think it should be resolved like that.

He said: “I think it would be very hard to resurrect a league that has already been classed as null and void from last season, to add points to this season.

“You can’t bring up past leagues that have finished. It wouldn’t affect us if that did happen either, so not saying from that point of view.

“I think with the league reshuffle, they could use a bit of common sense with teams like Hastings or Worthing in the league above and see that on both occasions when the league has stopped they have been top.

“They have been fairly dominant for these two short seasons and I don’t think many would argue if they were moved into different leagues.

“I know some may argue a league isn’t over until it’s won, so they may look at it from that point it view too.”

Whatever happens with the leagues, there’s one word that sums up the current situation for Lovett.

He said: “It’s a frustrating wait at the moment, as I think we are all guessing that the season is going to be called null and void.

“I understand people’s health and safety comes first, so we need to put that ahead of everything. I think the frustration comes because we have not been able play the game we love, after starting a season and finishing the last one early.

“It’s a game that helps people in so many ways including mental health issues, fitness with the training, the social side and just a general release after a busy week at work, and this includes the fans as well.

“It's just not knowing what is happening.

“If we know the season is finished we prep for late June through to August when pre-season starts.

“If we go again in March/April, we start Zoom fitness sessions etc now until we play.

“I hope we hear something soon, as I don’t like having all this time to think, without putting anything into place.

“But if it means waiting so the country can get itself healthier, then it makes complete sense.”
