Borough boss Tommy Widdrington said a Whitehawk fan who threw grapes at him was an “idiot” after the incident at Priory Lane on New Year’s Day.

Tensions ran high after Widdrington questioned Whitehawk’s facilities following their Boxing Day clash. And one angry fan responded by launching grapes at the Borough boss before the sides went head-to-head once more.

“I don’t know what that was about,” Widdrington said. “Some idiot came up to me before the game, it could have been anything, it could have been acid which is concerning, but our stewards did well and rightly threw him out.

Widdrington is no stranger to a touchline attack. In 2007, his nose was broken after receiving a headbutt from Rushden and Diamonds manager Garry Hill.
