'I'm absolutely gutted to be missing games...but after what happened I'm really grateful to still be here'

The 28-year-old was involved in an accident which closed the A259 Marine Drive near Roedean in both directions at around 6.30am following a four vehicle crash.

And although the attacking player, who has made 36 appearances so far this season scoring 20 times and assisting 21 times in all competitions, is gutted to be missing the end of the season, he is 'grateful to still be here'.

Saunders told Middy Sport: "I have broke my foot not sure what bone or how serious yet as I'm waiting to go back to see a bone specialist.

"I'm absolute gutted to be missing games especially at this point of the season but after what happened I'm really grateful to still be here."

Haywards Heath Town, managed by Saunders' dad Shaun, are currently in second place in the Southern Combination Football League Premier Division, five points behind leaders Shoreham, who they face on Saturday.

And Saunders will be supporting the team as they look to challenge for the title.

He said: "I won't miss a game. I'll be with the boys all the way to the end I'll be around the squad on game days and cheering them on from the side.

"We're under no illusions of the task in front of us we know it's in Shoreham's hands and we know we need a couple of favours along the way.

"They are great strong side but we will keep believing and fighting until it's mathematically impossible.

"But at the start of the season if someone would've offered me a top three finish and a cup final I would've taken it."

In a tweet last night, Saunders said: "Gutted to have sustained these injuries this morning but I'm still here an my hearts still beating #Grateful"
