In pictures: Ex-Observer man goes around the sports grounds for charity

The Hastings Observer’s former sports editor returned to non-league grounds across the area in a mammoth 55-mile charity walk. Simon Newstead started the challenge at sunrise at 4.46am and completed it a minute before the sunset time of 9.16pm on Sunday, June 21.

Along the way, he passed many of the football and cricket grounds he often frequented during his 16-and-a-half years with the newspaper. The 37-year-old’s efforts have raised £450 for Arthritis Action – a charity he chose as his late father was a long-term arthritis sufferer. Simon set off from Eastbourne Town Hall and headed east to Pevensey Bay, Cooden Beach, Bexhill, St Leonards and Hastings. He then made his way north to Westfield before progressing to Sedlescombe, Battle and down into Crowhurst. From there, he walked to Sidley and Little Common before making his way back to Eastbourne town centre where he started. To donate, click here.
