Anthony Storey could be in temporary charge at Horsham for the ‘next few matches’ as the club searches for Gary Charman’s successor.

The Hornets will not rush into bringing in a new boss ahead of Wednesday’s home match with fellow managerless side Hastings.

Former Middlesborough player Storey, who re-signed for Horsham in mid-December, will take charge this week and has already moved to bring in up to five new players.

Horsham chief executive John Lines revealed the club has already had a number of ‘interesting’ applicants after Charman stepped down last Friday.

He said: “Anthony Storey will be taking over for Wednesday’s game and potentially for the next few matches as temporary manager.

“He will joined in a coaching role and assisted by Cliff Cant the ex-Arsenal player, who has been with Horsham before with John Maggs, as his assistant.

“We have had a number of unsolicited enquiries for the position and a few interesting people among them that we will be speaking to.

“Anthony has worked very hard since we spoke to him about the temporary position on Friday and managed to get some new players in already and I hope by Wednesday we will have registered five new players.

“Anthony has spoken to everyone from the squad and at the moment, everyone has agreed to give it a go and stay. Although, you cannot rely on that as there are lots of clubs in the league and you cannot hold people that aren’t on contracts. With new players coming in there is always a possibility some will leave.”

Horsham currently sit bottom of the Ryman League South Division.
