United have been in red hot form under caretaker boss Solskjaer and have scored 17 goals and conceded just three since he took charge last month. They ran out 1-0 winners away to Tottenham in their last game.

Manchester United are sixth in the Premier League, level on points with fifth-placed Arsenal, and six points behind Chelsea, who occupy the final Champions League position.

Brighton's four-game unbeaten run came to an end when they lost 1-0 at home to Premier League leaders Liverpool last weekend.

The Seagulls are 13th in the table, eight points clear of the relegation zone.

The game gets underway at 3pm from Old Trafford. United beat Brighton twice at home last season, 1-0 in the Premier League and 2-0 in the FA Cup quarter-finals. However, Albion have tasted victory in their last two matches against United, 1-0 in May and 3-2 in August.

Is the game on TV?

No. Albion are not on television again until the home match with Burnley on February 9. United are next televised on February 3 when they travel to Leicester.

Highlights of Saturday's match will be on Match of the Day on BBC One from 10.20pm that evening.

What’s the team news?

United forward Alexis Sanchez is set to return to full training this week and could be back available for Saturday's game following a hamstring injury.

Defender Chris Smalling could also be back available on Saturday after a foot injury but no return date has been set for Marcos Rojo.

Eric Bailly is available again after suspension.

Brighton will be without goalkeeper Mathew Ryan and winger Alireza Jahanbakhsh, who are at the Asian Cup with Australia and Iran respectively.

Left-back Bernardo (hamstring) and winger Jose Izquierdo (knee) could also be missing, along with midfielder Yves Bissouma, who was not involved against Liverpool at the weekend owing to a hip injury.

Paul Tierney will be the man in the middle at Old Trafford. He has shown 56 yellow cards and one red in 14 Premier League matches this season.

The assistant referees will be Simon Beck and Mick McDonough, with Lee Mason the fourth official.
