EP’s County League Division 1 fixture against Ringmer had to abandoned after 70 minutes with the visitors 1-0 ahead, owing to floodlight failure.

It was the second time in three matches that The Lashmar had seen an abandonment as their game against Littlehampton was ended after 15 minutes when a manhole cover was dislodged last month.

Speaking about Saturday’s floodlight failure, Doyle said: “We have had some rotten luck in the past month. First it was the hole saga against Littlehampton and now the lights went out 70 minutes in.

“We are not yet sure why the failure happened but it should not take too long to repair. I think it may have just been a case of damp or water getting into the light, though until the repair is completed we will not know.

“I felt a little bit for Ringmer as it was the second time this year that this has happened to them.

“They had just taken the lead and with 20 minutes left, it may well have been difficult for us to get back into it but we will have another opportunity now.”

East Preston travel to Eastbourne Town in County League Division 1 on Saturday, then host Littlehampton on Tuesday.
