Luer links up with the development squad at Hull City on an initial two-year deal this week and he was delighted with how his final game for the club went.

The 19-year-old was made captain and was also given a guard of honour when leaving the pitch at the end of the match by his team-mates and the management staff.

He said: “It was the perfect ending, scoring a hat-trick in a local derby in front of all our fans and with a few friends playing for Worthing.

“I wanted to leave the team unbeaten, that was my aim. I just wanted to do everything I could to get them as far as possible before I left.”

On how he thinks the Hillians will fare for the rest of the season, Luer said: “They’ll go on to win the league now I think and they’ll do well in the cup. The team is so together and I’ve never known a changing room like it, it’s just unbelievable.”

Luer had been with Hillians for three years, after playing for Hove Rivervale, Whitehawk and Eastbourne Borough for a year as a youngster.

He is thankful to everyone at Hillians for helping him earn his chance at Hull and said: “I owe Burgess Hill massively. Everyone at the club - all the fans, the management and everyone behind the scenes.”
