It was 6-0 at the break but Newhaven came back out with more fight - although Chichester were not letting them through

.Libby Heath continued to clear any danger at the back.

Chichester City 3 Lewes Bridge View 1

In Chichester’s first game in four weeks, the first half brought a lot of effort by both sides but very few goalscoring chances as Poppy Morgan and Phoebe Irish dealt comfortably with the away side’s attacks.

Chichester made two half-time substitutions, bringing on Sophie Weller and Bibi Fenton, and started to play with more intensity. Anne Smith soon forced a good save from the Lewes keeper.

The home team continued to press and Rebecca Mann crossed for Smith to open the scoring. But the lead was shortlived as Lewes equalised from a goalmouth scramble following a corner.

The Lewes keeper produced more good saves to deny Mann on two occasions.

The move of the match saw Morgan play a long pass to Mann, who crossed to Smith who restored the home side’s lead.

As Lewes searched for another equaliser, Bea Daley broke from midfield before Smith ran from the halfway line and calmly slotted past the keeper at the near post for her hat-trick.

CHICHESTER: Youngman, Morgan, Irish, Mann, Ewens, Daley, Smith, Fenton, Weller.
