In the fourth meeting between the two league rivals this season, YM netted four times in the final 17 minutes to respond to their Peter Bentley Cup exit to the same side exactly a week ago.

Charlie Cooke opened the scoring on 73 minutes and Dave Brown made it 2-0 just two minutes after with the first of his brace.

Brown added his second with five minutes left as Sam Schaaf completed the goals late on to cap a capitulation from the visitors.

YMCA boss Peter Buckland said: “That’s the fourth time we have played Eastbourne United, and we now have two wins each.

“Having lost the last game down at Eastbourne, we all felt it coming. We made sure to stay in the game the first half, and then really pressed in the second half and that is exactly what they did.

“There were some cracking goals out there and it is nice to see Brownie on the score sheet. It was a great all-round performance, and the changes worked well. Eastbourne United are a very good side, and we did well to take them apart tonight, which has also set the tone for Saturday.”

Both teams created decent chances during the first half with an Eastbourne shot deflected over and the follow-up header being put over.

YM stopper Sam Smith pulled off his first spectacular save of the night to stop an Eastbourne header falling into the bottom corner, while Brown was denied at the other end.

In the second half, YM put countless balls across the box that weren’t converted before Smith pulled off another fine stop. YM finally took the lead from Cooke’s well-placed shot from a Brown cut-back, before Brown himself finished one-on-one.

Schaaf then hit a well-aimed switch cross to Brown, who latched onto the ball and scored, before Schaaf dipped the ball over the visiting goalkeeper late on.
