Kane pleased with United display

Hastings United manager Nigel Kane believes his team will stay out of relegation trouble if it can maintain its current performance levels.

The U’s produced encouraging displays in the 1-0 defeat away to Guernsey a fortnight ago and last weekend’s 1-1 draw at home to Sittingbourne in Ryman Football League Division One South.

Kane said: “I would say a draw was the least we deserved (against Sittingbourne). I thought we dominated for long spells. We played well, but we need to punish teams when we’re on top.

“I think we should’ve been ahead at half time and it was good that we didn’t let our heads drop after going behind. We battled back and earned the point. I think the fact we battled back and played well should definitely help us going forward.”

Kane was pleased with the debuts of Luke Turner at left-back and, in particular, Jack McLean further forward on the same flank.

“Jack McLean had a very good debut and the left-back had a solid debut as well,” Kane added. “Jack McLean has given us a real boost. He plays with a bit of a swagger and believes in himself. I think some of the players had stopped believing in themselves and the mentality in the squad had been a little bit frail.

“We’ve also re-signed Matt Maclean and I’m sure he will get goals for us. We’ve got goal threats on the pitch now.”
