That’s the view of Common player-manager Russell Eldridge, whose team has six Sussex County Football League Division Two games scheduled for this month.

Eldridge said: “There’s quite a few points up for grabs in December with some winnable games. December is going to be a key month for us if we’re going to be there or thereabouts at the end of the season. The squad’s looking good so we’re very hopeful that we’re going to have a good December.”

Having won their last two league games, Common appear to be over the dramatic slump in form they endured in the first half of last month.

Common enter the second half of their league campaign in fourth place, three points behind third-placed Loxwood having played an extra game.

“We know that we want to be more consistent, but the quality in our team is there for all to see,” continued Eldridge, who scored the only goal in last weekend’s derby win over Westfield.

“We’ve got that strength with that extra quality which maybe we’ve lacked at times in the season. We’ve got a good all-round squad and everyone’s working hard for each other.”

Common will be targeting three more points at home to bottom half outfit Seaford Town tomorrow (Saturday) before visiting leaders Eastbourne United AFC on Tuesday night.

They do have a few injury concerns at present, though. Jerome Smith is expected to be out for the rest of the calendar year, while Charlie Bachellier, Adam Smith and Dom Bristow have also been struggling with various ailments.

Common’s cross-town rivals Bexhill United, meanwhile, will begin the second half of their Division Two campaign with another away game at Oakwood tomorrow. See today’s Bexhill Observer for the full article.
