LADIES FOOTBALL: Crawley Wasps crowned Worthing Tournament champions

Crawley Wasps Ladies complemented their Under-19s counterparts by lifting the ladies’ section winners’ trophy with a magnificent performance.

They managed to remain unbeaten in all eight games played during which they suffered just only one draw and did not concede any goals.

On a wet and dull day on the south coast saw the Ladies win the first three games all 1-0 wins with goals from Toni Smith, Faye Rabson and Smith again.

The fourth game against eventual losing finalists Maidstone saw an evenly contested 0-0 draw. The Wasps finished off their group games with another win 2-0 against Eastbourne thanks to a goal from Jade Simmons and an own goal.

Wasps then finished the group games with a convincing 5-0 win against Predator Ladies with goals from Simmons, Natalie Stephenson, Rabson and a brace for Smith.

This qualified them for the semi-final against last season’s tournament winners Worthing Town which was decided by a solitary goal from Rabson.

Another tight game against Maidstone in the final went to extra-time with Smith deflating the opposition 2 minutes into the first period, and Rabson making sure of victory with a second goal with a minute to play.
