Lancing, Steyning, Worthing United and Littlehampton eye FA Vase glory

Lancing will be joined by Steyning, Worthing United and Littlehampton in the first round of the FA Vase.

The Lancers had byes through the first two rounds of this year’s Vase and will visit Hellenic League side Reading on October 31.

Goals from George Cousins, Cian Griffin-Tilley abd Matthew Boiling saw Steyning to a 3-1 home win over Lingfield. They’ll host Seaford in the first round.

Worthing United had a thrilling 4-3 home win over Canterbury City and will now host Edgware. Dan Hills, Billy White, Alfie Sparks and Callum Thoms were on target.

Goals from Dion Jarvis, Joe Benn and Lucas Pattendon earned Littlehampton Town a 3-1 win over Lordswood. They will go to Fleet.

East Preston are out of the Vase after a 2-0 loss at home to Fisher. Also out are Shoreham, who lost 7-0 at Kennington.

In the SCFL division one,Mile Oak lost 2-1 at home to Midhurst while Arundel won 3-2 at Oakwood courtesy of Tobi Minter, Rob Madden and John Phillips’ strikes.

In division two, Ferring lost 1-0 at home to Charlwood and in the Intermediate Cup Rustington won 3-0 at Westfield and Littlehampton United won 5-3 at Ridgewood.

* Wick are determind to put a run of three defeats behind them when they host Mile Oak on Saturday.

They were knocked out of the FA Vase by Saltdean United on Saturday. But they were not devoured by the Tigers and there were plenty of positives to take from the 2-0 reversal in the second qualifying round tie at Crabtree Park.

Scott Rafferty, who has signed from Pagham, enjoyed a steady home debut at right-back while Rob Wimble held the ball up well in attack allowing Johan van Driel to revert to midfield where he was able to combine more efficiently with Andy Chick.

The Dragons took the game to a Saltdean side who recently hammered East Preston 8-0 and who are flying high at the top of the SCFL premier division.

The Tigers took the lead through a well-taken finish from Reece Halkard before half-time and Bradley Williams added another midway through the second period.

Wick’s 2-0 defeat was the sane score by which Saltdean beat Division One leaders Littlehampton in the Sussex Senior Cup last Tuesday – a day before the Dragons lost 4-0 at by Bexhill United.

“There’s a lot of work to do to get where we want but this was a better performance,” said Wick joint manager Tom Simmonds.

“We can only get better with some new recruits coming into the club and others returning from injury and suspension.

“We have a lot of big games coming up, starting with Mike Oak at home on Saturday, and we can start to make headway.”

WSFL div two south

Yapton’s second-half performance let them down again.

They scored after ten minutes when Dan Gill latched on to a headed clearance from John Goord and rounded the keeper.

In the 50th minute Fernhurst equalised and they snatched the winner in the 68th minute.
