United lost just one game on their way to winning the West Sussex League Premier Division title last season.

Following promotion, United have moved quickly to bring in eight new players for this season.

The vast majority have had experience at either Division 2 level or higher and with the squad assembled, George is confident of a successful season.

He said: “We were strong last season but having signed eight new players, who have all played at a higher level, we expect to surprise this season.

“After the powerful performances in pre-season it indicated we will be high-scoring, we’ve got four players in our squad who scored more than 20 goals each last season.”

The only downside to an otherwise productive pre-season is the work United have had to undertake on their Crowshaw Recreation playing surface.

George admits it has been tough getting it up to scratch but believes they are there now.

He added: “The only downside to the new season is the amount of work we have had to undertake filling in sizeable holes across the pitch.”

Lancing make their return to Southern Combination League football with a home clash against Bosham on Saturday.

George knows how tough test this will be but is hopeful they can start with a win. He said: “Bosham, who finished highly-placed last season will be a difficult start for us.”
