Landais treble helps Golds ease to victory

The victory saw Golds extend their unbeaten run in the league to seven matches, with five of those wins.

Littlehampton boss Mark Bennett felt his side’s first-half performance was their best so far this season and said: “In the first 25 minutes, we were absolutely brilliant.

“It was such an impressive opening and to be four goals up was a great effort. The opening was so impressive that I felt we could have been five or six goals to the good had we converted our chances.

“The only real disappointment for me from the game was the fact that we conceded. We have struggled defensively at times this year and, to let a goal in with five minutes left, was disappointing.

“But it’s difficult to complain when you have scored six goals and come away with the three points.

“All in all, it was a really pleasing performance and I am hoping we can reach the level from the first half for the rest of the season.”

Landais gave Golds the lead after just two minutes, before debutant Darren Boswell, who has joined from Hastings, got on the scoresheet six minutes later.

Landais made it 3-0 after just 12 minutes, before he completed his hat-trick just seven minutes later with his 21st goal of the season.

Joe Shelley missed a penalty early in the second half, before Golds did get a fifth on 56 minutes through Kieron Pamment.

The visitors pulled a goal back through Phil Johnson with five minutes left but Golds soon restored their five-goal advantage when Scott Packer scored two minutes from time.

Golds sit fourth in the table, five points behind leaders Dorking Wanderers with two games in hand, after Dorking won 5-2 at Hailsham on Tuesday. Pagham moved above Littlehampton and third-placed Eastbourne Town, into second, with a 2-0 win at Ringmer on Tuesday.

Littlehampton host Loxwood on Saturday.
