Last gasp agony for Common

Little Common suffered a heartbreaking Sussex County League Division Two Challenge Cup semi-final defeat.

The Commoners conceded a last minute goal to go down 4-3 after extra-time at the hands of AFC Uckfield at Ringmer FC on Monday night.

Common went into the tie as heavy underdogs given that Uckfield are riding high in the league and put seven goals past them in both league meetings between the clubs.

But Casey Ham gave Common a 15th minute lead, and although James Rhodes levelled 13 minutes later, Ryan Alexander restored Common’s advantage on the hour.

Uckfield equalised for a second time in the 82nd minute through Drew Greenall, yet had former Brighton & Hove Albion and Hastings man Stafford Browne sent-off for two yellow cards two minutes later.

Greenall put Uckfield ahead for the first time in the ninth minute of extra-time. Steve Morris made it 3-3 some 14 minutes later, but Uckfield nicked it at the end.
