Jack Stenning gave high-flying Oak the lead in the Southern Combination League Division 1 match just past the hour.

However, Ben Shoulders’ Oak side were reduced to ten men when Dan Harley was sent off for two bookings six minutes from time and the visitors struck late as it finished 1-1.

Chances came and went at both ends in the first half as Oak’s Enzo Benn had a fierce left-footed shot deflected inches wide and Liam Austin-Slade clipped the ball just wide following an excellent run by Stenning.

Billingshurst had a couple of efforts which went off target, before Oak took the lead on 62 minutes when Stenning curled the ball home.

Harley received his second booking for a foul on 84 minutes but Oak keeper Aaron Stenning saved the resulting free kick.

Billingshurst continued to press forward and grabbed a point in the final minute through Nicholas Tilley.

Oak remain second in the table, two points behind leaders Saltdean.

“Saturday was very frustrating and wasn’t our best performance by a long shot.

“We just didn’t create enough chances in a game that we had a lot of the ball. They had two or three chances all game and took one, so fair play to them as they made it difficult for us.

“The sending-off didn’t help us at all and was a bit soft but you get this during a season.

“We move on to Saturday now, where we have a big game against Bexhill which is a must-win as a few points have been dropped lately.”
