Late strikes see Mullets through

ARUNDEL Football Club took advantage of a tiring Mile Oak side in their FA Vase replay on Tuesday night to advance into the second qualifying round.

Goals in the last 15 minutes from Lewis Jenkins and Scott Tipper saw Mullets set up an away tie with Eastbourne United in the next round.

On Saturday, Oak had to play more than 100 minutes with ten men as keeper Aaron Stenning was sent off after just 20 minutes, when they were already trailing to Rory Biggs’ goal, although Oak levelled two minutes into the second half.

At Mill Road on Tuesday evening, Arundel saw their visitors tire and Jenkins netted the first goal with a cracking finish after flicking the ball over Chris Paine, spinning around him and finishing with his left foot.

With six minutes remaining, a long kick up field saw Scott Tipper lob home over Stenning to secure a place in the next round.

Mullets’ boss Brett Torode said: “I thought we did well and controlled most of the game.

“I think in the first half, to be fair to them, they did a lot of work and we felt they would tire in the second half and they did, to be honest.

“It’s a good win and we now face a difficult one down at Eastbourne United.
