It looked as though the Mullets were going to suffer cup heartache when they fell 2-1 behind on 115 minutes.

However, a Ryan Peake strike and a Jordan Clark penalty, with the last kick of the game, ensured Arundel’s place in the final.

Mullets boss Simon Butler went along to watch the tie after his side’s Division 1 encounter with St Francis Rangers was postponed.

He said: “It was a really good cup tie.

“I was really impressed with the way Lavant played and they had a couple of older guys who have played at a decent level in their careers.

“I’m pleased that the club are in a cup final and we will now face either Three Bridges reserves or Southwick in the final.

“It’s just a case of waiting to see who we will face and giving it a good go in the final.”

Arundel return to action in County League Division 1 on Saturday when they travel to Horsham YMCA.

Butler knows it will be a tricky task awaiting his side and said: “It’s never an easy place to go and I’m sure this will be no exception.

“We have lost our last five matches in all competitions, so it’s important we stop that run with a win or draw.”
