Hurst held the in-form second-placed side, who have lost just one league match all season, in an entertaining and even 1-1 draw.

It was Billingshurst’s second win of the season and manager Adie Konieczny said: “It was much better all round this week and I couldn’t have asked for a better response from the players after last week’s miserable showing.

“The effort and commitment was much better and we created a fair few chances against a side sitting second and we were well worth a point. I’ve always believed that with a full and fit squad we’re a match for anyone in this league and now it’s time we stepped up to the mark and prove it.”

The visitors’ best chance of the first half saw Elliot Hawkes fail to finish in the six-yard box in an even period.

At the start of the second half, Hawkes failed to connect with a Tilley cross and stopper Tom Betts parried an Oak effort around the post.

The opening goal came on 62 minutes as Jack Stenning outpaced George Magnus and curled a shot that, despite a hand from Betts, nestled in the top corner.

Freddie Bowls then hit a post and Bichard failed to finish the follow-up into an empty net. Dan Harding was then shown a second yellow card for a late tackle with six minutes left to play and the Hurst pressure told as Tilley’s first-time shot found the corner of the net late on.

Billingshurst: Game, H.Bowles, Carse, Magnus (Stallibrass), Hawkes (Lannon), F.Bowles (White), Hancock, Idiong, Tilley, Bichard.
