Leach hat-trick in Rye romp

Rye United moved into the top four courtesy of a 5-0 win over Eastbourne United AFC on Monday night.

Danny Leach led the rout with a hat-trick to make it 13 for the season, while Liam Upton and an own goal rounded-off the scoring against the team propping up Sussex County Football League Division One.

The match was played at Sidley United’s Gullivers ground with The Salts still out of action following August’s arson attack on the Sidney Allnutt Pavilion.

Talking of Sidley, the Blues kicked-off 2011 with a 3-1 loss away to Ringmer earlier in the day.

Bexhill United remain second in Division Two after a 1-1 draw at home to fourth-placed neighbours Westfield. Both goals came from first half free kicks.

David Pugh gave Westfield the lead against his former club with his 19th of the season, but Zack McEniry’s first goal for Bexhill ensured honours finished even. Ben White saw a second half penalty saved by Westfield goalkeeper Dan Foster.

Little Common’s slump in form continued with a 7-2 drubbing at home to leaders AFC Uckfield despite goals from Lewis Hole and Mickey O’Callaghan’s first of the campaign.

Full reports on each of these games will appear in Friday’s Observers.
