Lewes lose third match in a row to tough Kent opposition

LEWES FC’s tricky-looking Christmas programme of matches finished with a third consecutive defeat against strong Kent-based opposition this afternoon.

The Rooks went down 3-1 at home to Welling thanks to two goals from Andy Pugh, on 33 minutes and 60 minutes, and Lee Clarke, on 37 minutes. Ben Godfrey’s struck back for Lewes on the stroke of half-time. The attendance was 766.

Tim O’Shea’s men had already lost twice to Kent opposition in the past week following a 4-0 demolition at Dover Athletic last Tuesday and a sickening 1-0 defeat away to Ebbsfleet on Saturday when, having held out against the hosts for much of the game, the Rooks finally conceded on 87 minutes when sub Scott Ginty pounced on an uncharacteristic mistake by defender Tom Hutchinson and turned the ball past keeper Chris Winterton to send the home fans amongst the 1,187 crowd into raptures.
