Lights go out on Rye

The Sussex County Football League Division One match was halted at half time because of a floodlight failure with the score 0-0. It will be replayed on a date to be announced.

Everything was fine until a couple of minutes before the break when the lights on one of the pylons went out while a Ringmer player was down injured.

The first half was completed, but the second wasn’t even started. Incidentally, the problem floodlight pylon was the same one which malfunctioned during the reserve team match between the two clubs last Friday night.

Rye manager Scott Price said: “The officials came in at half time and asked if I was happy to carry on second half, but I said ‘not a chance’. It was too dark in that bottom right-hand corner down the slope.

“They wanted to carry on, but they were attacking the goal where it was dark. It was a waste of time and it annoyed me because they didn’t even fix it (following the problems of last Friday).”

Although he felt that Ringmer were the best side Rye have played so far this season, Price felt that Rye had been very much on top with Anthony Storey impressing on his debut.
