In an uneventful first half, neither keeper was called into serious action with both teams cancelling each other out. The closest Common came to breaking the deadlock was when Freddie Warren’s ball across the area eluded the outstretched foot of Lewis Hole whilst at the other end a long range effort was comfortably dealt with by Hawkins.
The second half proved to be a far more livelier affair with the visitors enjoying a good spell just after the interval and Hawkins making a smart double save, reacting quickly to save at point blank range having parried the initial effort.
It was Common who opened the scoring in the 67th minute when Hole’s flick to Feakins saw him bundled over in the area and the referee pointed to the spot. Russell Eldridge made no mistake with the spot kick to give Common the lead.
Kian Moynes almost doubled the advantage with a long range effort that was parried by the visiting keeper before the visitors began to get on top. Hawkins did well to save from close range before Eldridge headed an effort off the goal line. The equaliser did arrive fifteen minutes from time when a ball played across the area was tucked home at the second attempt. Common still looked a threat on the break but it was Lancing who took the lead minutes later when a delivery into the area was glanced home from close range.
A third goal quickly followed when Ollie Weeks was unable to clear a goal bound effort on the line and the points were effectively sealed.
Lewis Parsons headed home a second for Common in added time after Adam Smith had seen an initial effort saved but the Commoners were unable fashion an equaliser in the drying minutes.
Squad: Hawkins, Clark, Weeks, Ward, Parsons, Eldridge, Moynes (K.Smith), Greig (Paul), Hole, Warren (A.Smith), Feakins.
