Newcastle edged closer to breaking their summer transfer duck and making their first major signing by agreeing a fee with Lyon for striker Bafetimbi Gomis. The two clubs have been wrangling over a deal for the past week but it is understood it has been agreed Newcastle will pay £6.9million up front with the fee possibly rising to £8.7m depending on clauses in his contract.
