Gary Lineker has suggested that Luis Suarez’s apology for his biting shame at the World Cup has been made to help engineer a move to Barcelona. The Uruguay striker received a nine-game international suspension and four-month ban from all football after being found guilty of biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini during his side’s 1-0 victory at the 2014 tournament. It was not as comfortable as the scoreline suggests but France, inspired by a substitution that changed the complexion of the game, eventually broke Nigeria’s resistance to secure a place in the quarter-finals of the World Cup. It took 79 minutes for a goal to arrive and it felt desperately cruel that the otherwise outstanding Vincent Enyeama should be the man who gifted France the lead.
