The U’s have issued seven-day approaches for Eastbourne United AFC striker Ryan McBride, Crawley Down Gatwick forward Ashley-Paul Robinson and an un-named third player.

United manager John Maggs confessed that the move for Robinson, who once had a very brief spell at The Pilot Field, was a “no go”, but hoped to speak with McBride yesterday.

“I’m looking at a couple of other players as well,” said Maggs, who added that any new arrivals won’t be in place for the Guernsey game. “I’m looking for one in every department; one up top, one in midfield and one defender.”

The new boss went on to say that he expects attacking midfielder Matt Maclean to stay at the club despite an approach from Eastbourne United.

Maggs said: “I spoke to Matt on Tuesday night and he’s confirmed to me he’s more than happy to stay here. He didn’t particularly want to drop two leagues and I told him I had no intention of letting him go. He has a big involvement at the club.”
