Lewis Hole bagged a hat-trick to take his tally for the season to 10 already and player-manager Russell Eldridge bagged a brace in the Sussex County Football League Division Two thrashing of AFC Uckfield.

Martin Denny and Eldridge hit the woodwork before the latter opened the scoring from a tight angle in the 17th minute. Hole doubled the lead three minutes later and Jared Lusted added a third prior to Uckfield pulling one back on the stroke of half time through Aaron Capon’s header.

Common put the result beyond doubt with four goals in the first 20 minutes of the second period. Denny made it 4-1 a minute after the restart, Hole raced through to add number five, Eldridge capitalised on a goalkeeping mistake for number six and Hole completed his treble with a penalty.

Uckfield grabbed a consolation via Capon’s second of the afternoon and Common finished the match with 10 men after Chris Cumming-Bart was shown his second yellow card. Common have moved up to second in the table.

Elsewhere, Westfield chalked up their first victory of the season in the same division with a 3-0 win away to Oakwood. Mike Booth struck twice and Dominic Clarke netted the other for a Westfield side which kept its second successive clean sheet.

Also in Division Two, Bexhill United conceded a last gasp penalty to lose 5-4 away to Loxwood. Stuart Lewis put the Pirates ahead on the half-hour following a goalmouth scramble and Tristan Jarvis doubled their lead nine minutes later.

Loxwood pulled one back almost instantly, though, thanks to Tom Lyons and the same player made it 2-2 at the break. Eddie French put Loxwood ahead for the first time only for Jarvis to level in the 67th minute and Andrew Matthews to put Bexhill 4-3 up six minutes later.

Again Loxwood replied straight away, however, as Tim Martin made it 4-4. Both teams pushed for a winner, but it was Loxwood who got it in added time as Lyons converted a penalty to complete his hat-trick.
