Maltman, who was in charge for just over a season, cited personal reasons for leaving his role.

His last game in charge was Ferring’s 2-1 Southern Combination League Division 2 Challenge Cup semi-final defeat to AFC Varndeanians last month.

A tough run of results, coupled with difficulties with injuries and other circumstances prompted Maltman to step down.

He said: “I felt after the semi-final defeat it was the right time for me to go.

“The job was becoming quite tough and I just felt it was the right time to step back.

“I couldn’t have asked anything more of the players but some serious injuries and a lot of fixtures in the final month just took its toll on the squad in the end.”

Ferring secretary Steve Sale took the team’s final five fixtures and their Division 2 campaign came to a close last night with a 4-3 defeat at AFC Roffey Club as they finished 11th in the table.

Ferring finished the season with 11 defeats from their final 13 league matches and chairman Deane Culver said: “A number of serious injuries and other issues resulted in Stuart leaving. He did the best he could with what he had and I’d like to thank him for that.

“A number of fixtures towards the back end of the season made it difficult for our squad but the search is now on for a new manager.”

Anyone interested in taking on the role at Ferring can contact club secretary Steve Sale on 07879 817517.
