Manchester United v Barcelona in Subbuteo with Fifa 16 commentary - watch 16-year-old Harry's video

A 16-year-old from Crawley has come with a unique idea which combines a game children would have played 20 years ago with one of the hottest games around now.

Harry Bryant was introduced to the classic football game Subbuteo by his dad Phil.

And it was Phil who told Harry he should do something different with the content he was putting on his Youtube channel.

So Harry came up with the idea of presenting a game of Subbuteo with Fifa 16 commentary and Match of the Day style graphics.

Harry told us: “It was my dad’s idea to make a video that was different as he said the other content on my YouTube channel was an acquired taste. We thought this would attract other people.

“He also said it would be interesting to show that modern games can be recreated in older methods. Plus it would show a younger audience what Subbuteo is.”

Oriel pupil Harry played his seven-year-old brother Joseph for the Manchester United v Barcelona game but it took 4-5 hours to get the video right for publishing.

He said: “The game took around three takes in order to get the perfect camera angles, the commentary took a lot of time to ensure that Martin Tyler didn’t interrupt at the wrong moment.

“The editing was relatively easy, it just got harder when I had to overlay the graphics and different audio. So it took at least 4-5 hours to get the final product I would say.

“I played the game first the went and found the commentary. First with just the commentators, the the player names and finally the crowd.”

Ipswich Town fan Harry wants to expand on this idea and, of course, include the Tractor Boys.

He said: “I would like to produce more in the future with as many different teams as possible - Ipswich are getting their own video. I also want to recreate real life highlights using subbuteo because I have seen it done in Fifa and through animation but it would add something new.”

It might seem strange that a 15-year-old would be into Subbuteo these days. But Harry is almost a veteran at the game which was most popular in the 1980s.

He said: “I first started playing subbuteo when I was around 7 or 8 when my dad got out his old teams and we just started playing mini tournaments.

“Then I got really into it and bought my own teams and the new pitch and me and my dad started our own premier league, which we still haven’t completed. Now my brother has got into it and he now has a tournament. He enjoys it because he can beat me with this more often than on FIFA!”

Dad Phil said: “He does a lot of video editing on the Xbox but this is without doubt the best one he’s done.

“We’re very proud of him, he’s extremely talented. Hopefully, people will like it and he’ll get a bit of recognition.”
