Marco lifts another trophy with England team

WORTHING Golf Club’s Marco Penge continued his scintillating summer by adding yet another title to the trophy cabinet last week.

The young star picked up his fifth title of the year by helping England lift the team trophy at the European Young Masters competition in Germany.

He improved his scores each day at Hamburg Golf Club with returns of level par 71, 69 and 67.

These, combined with the scores of team-mates Bradley Moore, Alice Hewson and Sophie Madden, gave England a team total of 12-under par and a six-shot win over Spain.

Moore, 15, also picked up the individual honours in the boys’ championship. He was nine-under par for the 54-hole event and secured his title with an eagle, birdie finish with round scores of 67, 66 and 71.

His magnificent finish saw him overcome the challenge of Portugal’s Pedro Almeida and Denmark’s John Axelson, who both finished on seven-under par.

Penge, 15, was right behind them, finishing fourth in the boys’ competition on six-under par.

Just before travelling to Germany, Penge had won the English under-15 and under-16 boys’ championships, and also won the Fairhaven Trophy and the South Region Schools Championship earlier this year.
