Simon Eastwood is pencilled in to play in goal following a minor shoulder problem picked up in Spain.

In addition, Appleton will be hoping to field Brian Howard, who last week gave the club until today to complete a free transfer move for him.

As it stands, the Blues boss’ hands remain tied and he is hoping the former Reading midfielder will not follow Simon Gillett out of the exit door.

Gillett has been training with Nottingham Forest since Monday with a view to a permanent move.

The trials of Lloyd Sam and David Preece have also come to an end after Appleton opted against following up his interest in the pair who featured during the tour to Spain and Gibraltar.

Youngsters Sam Magri, Adam Webster and Ashley Harris will also be given run outs.

Dan Thompson, Dan Butler, George Colson, Jed Wallace, Elliot Wheeler, Alex Grant and Andy Higgins could also be involved as they look to maintain their progress.

Meanwhile, Pompey have sold only around 850 tickets for Saturday’s visit of Bolton.
