The Mid Sussex Youth League hosted a successful morning of football and fundraising in aid of their charity partner Rockinghorse.

A record number of over 250 players from the leagues Under 7 & 8 age groups took part in the monthly Mini Soccer Festival event that raised a fantastic £267.94 towards their £5000 season target for the Brighton based Children’s Charity.

The Rockinghorse is the official fundraising arm of the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Brighton along with other specialist units across the county.

Special guest and Sussex FA chairman Mathew Major was delighted to give his feedback, he said: “The attendance by clubs was absolutely tremendous with 42 teams spread across 7 pitches, it really was a ‘sea’ of young people playing and enjoying football.”

The league gave thanks to all the following Under 7 & 8 teams and their supporters who participated at the event in such a fun and generous manner:

Crawley Down Gatwick, Crawley Panthers, Cuckfield Cosmos, Furngate Youth, Hassocks Juniors, Lindfield Juniors, Marle Place, Mile Oak Wanderers, Oakwood Youth, Old Vardeanians, Perrywood Sports, Plumpton Athletic, St Francis Rangers and Worthing Dynamos.)

Mathew added: “Coinciding as it did with the FA’s ‘Respect Weekend’, the League showed the positive side of the programme, with parents, guardians and families, all enjoying the fun of the competition.

“I particularly liked the fact that there was no overall winner of the festival, as everyone was a winner, having all played the same amount of games. I would like to congratulate the players, managers and everyone at the league, for making the whole event a great success. You should be rightly proud of your League’s support for youth football in this County.”

The charities recently introduced mascot ‘Rocky’ was in attendance to assist on spreading the good word on how the league and charity are working together, with this being the first in many fundraising events across the season. The league were also delighted to include £75 of the tea bar revenue towards the amount raised along with a further £75 donation included from the onsite photography team DE Photo.

Charlotte Gough-Cooper, Rockinghorse Schools & Community Fundraising Manager added “Thank you to the MSYMFL for inviting Rocky and myself along to their football festival.

“It was a fantastic turn out and brilliant to meet so many generous people and all-important committee members who make these events happen and to speak to them about how grateful we are for their support this season.”

The league would also like to thank Brighton & Hove County Council and Brighton Rugby Club for their vital assistance in making this event such a great success.
