Midfield talent could stay put at Pompey

Michael Appleton is pondering throwing Buzsaky in for his full league debut for the Blues against Crewe tomorrow at Fratton Park.

The Hungarian ace made his opening start for the club against Wycombe on Tuesday – his first significant competitive minutes since the end of last season.

Appleton has been impressed by his brightness in training in the wake of that game as the Blues boss mulls over his team selection tomorrow.

Buzsaky admitted building his fitness was a key factor in him linking up with Pompey.

But so was being part of the set-up at a club with the Blues’ status. And despite playing in the top flight with QPR only last season, the 30-year-old explained he may yet be tempted to remain long-term if Pompey’s future is resolved in a positive fashion.

Buzsaky said: ‘On the table, I played last season in the Premier League for QPR and now I’m in League One.

‘But Portsmouth is not a League One club. I understand that, I came here because this is a good place to play.

‘The people in the club are very friendly and I felt at home straightaway. That was important to me.

‘But I don’t want to lie. I came here to be fit. I want to play well and score goals and then I can move forward – and, hopefully, Portsmouth will move forward.

‘A player’s career is short, so you make the most of it –that’s why I’m here. I want to be on the level I was before.

‘I didn’t come here to be rich. Money is not important for me.

‘I looked in the mirror a few weeks ago and said there’s no point being nowhere. I want to be part of something.

‘This is a massive club. Hopefully they get new owners and move forward.

‘We have the playing staff and management who are good enough to take this club forward. This takes time but it will happen.

‘I want to play football. I’m 30, I want to create goals, score goals and win games.

‘If I do that I will get the opportunity to move upwards in leagues. To be fair, though, I like this place already.

‘If there is potential for this club to move forward and they think I can be part of it, then I wouldn’t close this door.

‘That’s the future, though, you never know what it will bring.’

Buzsaky admitted he arrived at Pompey after dallying over his future.

He turned down a new deal at QPR and offers from Championship sides, which then left him without a club.

Buzsaky said: ‘I had options in the summer but I ended up without a team.

‘That, of course, was my fault and if I could go back I’d maybe decide more carefully.

‘I could have stayed at QPR and had Championship sides who were interested.

‘But I don’t want to look backwards, I want to move forwards with Portsmouth.’
