Midhurst boost their staying-up hopes with win over Seaford

A decent-sized crowd urged Midhurst on and midfielder Jamie Angell was well-placed to head them in front after 20 minutes.

Seaford were not going to let Midhurst build on their lead and after 30 minutes Scott Dartnell placed the ball clear of Paul Williamson in the Midhurst goal to make it 1-1.

Sean Dummer was shown a yellow card for an over-enthusiastic tackle and Dartnell received one too.

Harry Menha was prominent for Midhurst and Michael Asare and Ollie Pearce did their bit in a well-balanced strikeforce.

On the hour Dummer pulled a muscle and was replaced by Danny Walker. Seaford stepped up their attacks and the game got more physical with the referee giving out a few lectures. Seaford’s Tony Porter handled just outside the area and the free-kick by Pearce was just wide.

The winning goal was a well-taken header by Ben Crawford which lifted spirits around Rotherfield.

On 79 minutes Asare was substitituted by Liam Dreckman before Seaford lost Harry Mills to a red card for a second cautionable offence.

Midhurst are looking to collect another three points from the visit of Westfield on Saturday (3pm) to give themselves a chance of staying up.

But with nothing certain over how many teams will go down from division two, the Stags may have to wait longer to discover their fate.
