We had a difficult start playing Mile Oak and Littlehampton after losing all our strikers a few days before the start of the season, which made things very difficult.

Against Mile Oak we were level until we were reduced to ten men – losing Jake Slater was another blow as he’s so important to way we set up.

We got Marcus Bedford in and he gave everyone a lift and he’s been a threat going forward with eight goals in eight starts.

Lockdown came just at the wrong time for us as we started to be more consistent.

Robbie Tambling had returned from injury and now we have forwards with goals in them. Matt Rowland is going to be like a new signing when he returns for us. Our only real poor performancehas been Worthing United away.

In the Senior Cup we had a good performances against Hassocks but lost to Crowborough on penalties, probably our best performance as a team, just before lockdown.

It’s been pleasing to keep five clean sheets to date.

In league games we’ve played only one less than we played up to Christmas last year but are two points better off.

The difficult thing now is we can’t train as a group. The lads have been doing bits themselves as they know competition for places is there and they all know they will need to keep their fitness levels for when we return.

We’ll sort in-house games or friendlies to get match sharpness We’ve set them bits to do and have a few Zoom sessions planned. I can’t see league games being played on December 5 – clubs need time to get match sharp to help prevent injuries. I’d prefer no league games until December 12. Part of me thinks we won’t return until New Year, which I hope I’m wrong about.

I think the season will finish but not until late May. I’ve heard we may go into June which I’d rather do than void it or go with PPG if we have another lockdown.

Our target is the top four – we need a bit of luck with injuries but if we can keep a 16-18 man squad we won’t be far away.
