Midhurst look safe for another season

Midhurst were pleased to get a point from a 2-2 draw at home to Westfield that should be enough to keep them in division two of the Sussex League for another season.

It will leave them fourth from bottom in the final table – and normally no more than the bottom two would be considered for relegation.

Both sides wanted to end the campaign with a win and the game was entertaining.

After 20 minutes Midhurst won a corner and in the ensuing goalmouth melee, defender Jamie Angell headed home to give Midhurst the lead.

This stung Westfield into action and within five minutes Ross Williams had found the Midhurst net. Although Midhurst looked the most likely to score, Gordon Cunnington gave Westfield the lead just before half-time.

Manager Trevor Waller decided to make a change soon after the restart and forward Liam Dreckman replaced defender Danny Walker.

Recent games had seen Michael Asare struggling for goals but with 15 minutes left he scored the best goal of the match to even up the score.

Looking back over Midhurst’s season, what’s evident is the number of goals conceded – and the number of games lost by the odd goal. Both areas need attention if Midhurst are to enjoy success next term.
