Midhurst take the points as Rustington lose second succesive match

RUSTINGTON fell to their second successive defeat in County League Division 2 as they went down 2-1 at home Midhurst.

The loss was Rustington’s fourth of the season, and Blues manager Brett Torode said: “We’re struggling for confidence at the moment and it’s an annoying result as we actually weren’t too bad.

“Every team has a blip at some stage, hopefully this is just what we’re having at the moment.

“If you don’t take your chances, it can hurt you, and fair play to them, they did. We did okay, but missed too many chances. We’ve got a toughie at Little Common on Saturday, so we’ll see how we go in that one.”

After several early chances fell Blues’ way, notably to Simon Clayton, who was just off-target, and Ross Adams, who fired straight at the keeper when well-placed, Midhurst went in front through Scott Dormer’s well-taken solo goal on 32 minutes.

Lewis Hyde doubled the lead 10 minutes after the break, but, despite a couple of attacking changes, Blues left it until five minutes from time to score, through Chris Darwin. But, despite late pressure, they could not find an equaliser.

RUSTINGTON: McCarthy; Butcher, Neal, Wimbleton, Harwood; Bennett, Bibb, Jones, Clayton; Adams, Huckett. Subs: Darwin (Clayton 60), Boxall (Butcher 70), Morten, Harvey.
