Mixed end to season for Chichester and Whyke lads’ teams

THE end of 2014-15 Arun & Chichester Youth League season proved eventful Chichester City Colts, Chichester City Youth and Whyke United – with joy and heartbreak in equal measure.

In the under-11 age group, Chichester City Youth finished fourth in the B league and will hope to push for promotion next season. On the other side of the coin Chichester City Colts slipped out of the B league by just a single point.

Whyke United finished strongly in joint sixth place in D league, losing just two of their final seven games.

Chichester City Colts Red under-12s completed the remarkable feat of three consecutive promotions and will play A league football next season. They made it a double celebration by winning the invitation cup final.

Whyke United were unfortunately relegated from the B to the C division and will hope to bounce back at the first attempt.

Chichester City Colts White completed another solid season in the A league with a respectable fifth-placed finish and reached the semi-finals of the challenge cup, losing to the eventual winners.

So near yet so far for Chichester City Colts in the under-13 age group. After finishing a very respectable fourth in the A league, they had the heartbreak of losing in both the challenge and county cup finals.

Chichester City Youth also in the A league comfortably finished fifth, taking points off the league winners in the process.

There were mixed emotions in the under-14 A league as Chichester City Youth and Whyke United Orange both confirmed top-division football next season, finishing eighth and fourth respectively.

Whyke United Black will be plying their trade in the B league next season after failing to the beat the relegation trapdoor.

Chichester City reached the invitation cup final but couldn’t quite get over the final hurdle. The same applied to Whyke United Orange at the semi-final stage of the challenge cup.

Chichester City Youth White completed a solid season in the under-15 A league, finishing fourth, and will look to push on next season after some encouraging results against the teams who finished above them, including a narrow challenge cup semi-final defeat.

Chichester City Youth Green finished bottom of the B league but did win their final league game.

Whyke United under-16s ensured A league football next season, the key result coming in a relegation six-pointer. They also reached the challenge cup semi-finals but couldn’t make the final step.

Chichester City Colts will join them next season after being crowned champions of the B league after a tense 3-2 final-day victory.

In the under-18 age group Chichester City Colts won four of their last five outings to finish fourth. Next season will be the last at youth level for a team continuing half a dozen players who have been together since the age of nine.

UNDER-16

Bognor Allstars under-16s beat the Allstars dads 9-4 in a match played to raise money for the National Autistic Society.

There was a great turnout and £294 was raised at the event at The Arena sports centre.

Some great goals were scored – with the boys opening the scoring and the dads levelling through Graham Puttock, who finished a fine move by chipping the keeper.

The dads continued to try to play football but fitness told and the boys increased their lead – and there was no looking back.

All the parents, players, spectators and sponsors were thanked for there efforts and donations at the end of a long season which saw the Allstars under-16s come second in their league.

At the charity match, MoM for the dads was Martin Spray and for the boys it was Mason Puttock.

Bognor’s under-tens (current school Year 4 children) and under-11s (Year 5) are looking to for new players. The under-tens are seeking a goalkeeper and an outfield player.
