Mullets draw at home to United

ARUNDEL Football Club manager Brett Torode has targeted seven points from his side’s remaining seven games for safety in County League Division 1.

Sixth-from-bottom Mullets drew 1-1 at home to third-from-bottom Worthing United on Saturday in a tight encounter and Torode said: “It was a tight game and a point is decent for us. They’re a good side with decent players and we want another seven points to be safe.

“A draw was about right, it was important not to lose to keep our cushion over them and I’m pleased with a point.

“We’ve had a few draws recently, but I think we’ve only lost twice since Christmas and, although most of those have been draws, we’ve played some decent sides.

“We just have to keep going and as long as we get the odd point here and there, we should be fine and 40 points should be enough, so that’s our aim.”

Rory Biggs and Jack Williamson went close for Mullets before Scott Tipper headed in his 35th goal of the season from a Biggs cross on the half hour.

Visitors United were level right from the restart after half-time, though, when George Jones headed home Lucas Mann’s cross from close range.

Despite several half-chances at both ends, neither side were able to find a winner.

Midfielder Russell Hardwell will not feature again for Arundel this season owing to work commitments, and Torode said: “It’s a big blow not having him available for us as he’s a quality player, and Gary Norgate missed Saturday, too, so we had a few out.”

Mullets entertain AFC Uckfield on Saturday.
